Student Activities Week

F1 Life Education

23-11-2009 - 27-11-2009

Abseiling, tyrolean, kayaking – our Form 1 students had a try on some of the most challenging and physically demanding activities they had ever had during the SAW. They have something more to share with us…

Active listening

I have learnt to be an active listener. Active listening requires us to listen not only with our ears but also with our heart, in order to evaluate and interpret the true meaning behind what’s being said. That way we will probably be inspired by something that most people easily overlook. Not only is active listening an important skill in interpersonal communications, but also what it takes to become a leader. 1A Hui Lok Yan Lorraine

Changing for the better

In a group, I have learnt to be cooperative and helpful, and ready to extend a warm helping hand to others at all times. Also, I have learnt to be compassionate and understanding because having someone understand you when facing challenges is vital. As an individual, I have learnt to be brave when I am alone, so that nothing can scare me so much in any situation.  1A Ho Cheuk Lam Sharon

Being encouraging and understanding

I have learnt to encourage others and be more understanding. When we were kayaking, some team members were very tired and could not keep the pace with others. But the rest of the term did not complain at all and waited patiently for them. Their encouragement had meant a big boost to the left-behinds! 1A Claudia Mok

Teamwork and friendship

Since we needed to a lot of teamwork during the SAW, I have learnt how to cooperate with others. I have made a lot of friends and understood them more, and we shared our food and helped each other. Also, I have become stronger and braver. I know I must take the initiative to try, especially when facing new challenges. – 1A Kevin Lai

Setting higher goals for ourselves

With my fear of heights, I never imagined myself rock climbing. “If you always do what you’ve done, you’ll get what you’ve already got,” said our ‘Lightning’ coach. Thanks to the encouragement from my leaders and teammates, I tried it and even managed to reach the destination! Everything is possible as long as one tries. Through trying and pushing ourselves, we continue to set newer and higher goals for ourselves. – 1D Jocelyn Grace

Being confident and courageous

On Tung Lung Island, we had to abseil down a steep cliff. When it was my turn, our instructor told me to lean back and relax, putting my weight on the ropes that led me down. I was scared at first, fearing that the ropes would break and I might die. Luckily my group mates were very supportive and encouraging, and I made it at last. The SAW has surely benefited me and turned me into a more courageous and confident person! – 1C Wang Charlotte Ruo Lin

Turning theory into practice

With real practice, it made it a lot easier for us to comprehend the learning from books. We have come to learn our own strengths and weaknesses better. We have also learnt that everyone has to put in great effort and stay focused to achieve their goals. And in order to do this, we need to make sacrifice and compromise sometimes. – 1A Choui Wai Ching
