Having been to the Lion City twice before this trip though, I have never experienced Singapore’s life as much as this exchange! The two weeks there were really awesome and fruitful as I was pampered with the passion and hospitality of the Singaporeans.

The learning style of SJI is different from SPCC’ s. Students there are really active and dare to ask questions that might challenge what the teachers have said. After school, most of the SJI boys would stay in school to have their training in badminton, hockey or rugby for at least three hours. No wonder they are that good at sports!

I enjoyed doing sports with my buddy who is a real sportsman. Unfortunately, I got my teeth broken and my stomach injured while I was playing basketball. But this only made the trip even more unforgettable!

Singapore is a multi-racial country which is proud of its harmonious existence of various cultures, including Chinese, Malaysian and Indian. During our stay in Singapore, the Racial Harmony Day was celebrated. Students wore traditional costumes and participated in a show in the afternoon. They performed different cultural dances and dramas about racial harmony, allowing me to know more about various cultures.

SJI students are active in class and keen on learning, which create an excellent learning atmosphere. The relationship between teachers and students is like brothers. They often make fun of each other, thus, providing a happy learning environment. They speak both English and Putonghua in daily conversations; some may even speak both in the same sentence that has given me a hard time ‘switching channel’ and adapting to it.

Over the two weeks in Singapore, I have learnt to be independent and more sociable. The host families were kind and generous and they took us to many famous places in Singapore – the most unforgettable place must be the Little India. I was surprised and couldn't imagine there is such a place for Indian in Singapore! We tried many kinds of Indian food and knew more about the Indian culture.

We also went to the Singapore Zoo. We could see many animals and had the chance to take photos with them very closely. The zoo, the garden and even the whole city are unbelievably clean. People there are kind and friendly, and they do love their own city and would like to protect it and make it a beautiful and environmentally friendly place.

During the two weeks in Singapore, I have made some new friends, learnt some Singlish and had a lot of unforgettable experience. First I had to wake up at 5:30 everyday and walked before the daybreak for taking a two-hour bus ride to school. I felt like I was living in the rural area of mainland China. Now I realised that living and studying in Hong Kong is indeed a wonderful thing – and we should feel thankful for what we have.

Another ‘impressive’ anecdote is: I got lost on my way back home. This experience taught me to stay clam always whenever we face a difficulty since panic can only worsen the situation.
